With TOU, customers pay rates that generally reflect the value of electricity supply at different times of the day. In that location are three TOU periods – on-pinnacle, mid-peak and off-tiptop. Prices are highest during on-peak, lower during mid-tiptop and lowest during off-summit.

TOU periods are different in the summer (May 1 to Oct 31) than they are in the winter (Nov one to April 30). During the summer, people apply more during the hottest role of the solar day, while in winter, with less daylight, electricity use peaks twice: in the morning and when people get dwelling from work.

Tiered Rates

Under tiered rates, the price does not alter depending on the time the customer uses electricity; instead, it changes depending on how much electricity the customer uses in a month.

A tiered rate client can use a certain amount of electricity each calendar month at a lower rate. In one case that limit is exceeded, the rate goes up. The thresholds and rates are set by the Ontario Energy Lath (OEB) and changes twice a year - for the winter season (November ane to April 30) and for the summer season (May 1 to October 31).

Security Deposits

Hydro Ottawa's security deposit policy applies to all non-residential customers. This policy helps us to continue rates as depression as possible for all customers, by preventing rate increases that would issue from unpaid bills. Security deposits are determined and managed in accordance with the provisions set out in the Ontario Energy Lath's Distribution Arrangement Lawmaking.

Non-residential customers can have their security deposit waived if they:

  • Have previously established a satisfactory payment history with Hydro Ottawa every bit an account holder in the same name, where some of that payment history has occurred inside the previous 24 months; or
  • Consent to a personal credit check and achieve a satisfactory credit rating. A $15 charge (plus HST) is practical to the client's account for this service; or
  • Provide a letter from some other electrical or gas distributor in Canada, confirming one year of good payment history in the same business relationship holder name, within the last 24 months. This letter should exist mailed to Hydro Ottawa at 3025 Albion Rd. N, Ottawa ON, K1G 3S4. Security deposits for non-residential customers with a demand greater than 50kW may exist reduced based on their credit rating from a recognized agency. Allowable reductions are outlined in Hydro Ottawa'due south Conditions of Service.
